Australia pathway overview
Australia uses a single national registration system administered by AHPRA with profession-specific National Boards. Every candidate must match the correct regulator route, English evidence, assessment body and document verification process.

AHPRA English language standard at a glance
All four professions in this guide use the AHPRA English Language Skills registration standard. The PDF highlights a 2026 score transition, so your test date matters.
On or before 22 April 2026
OET minimums listed in the guide: Listening B, Reading B, Writing C+ and Speaking B. The writing minimum was lowered from B to C+ on 18 March 2025.
On or after 23 April 2026
OET numerical minimums listed in the guide: Listening 350, Reading 360, Writing 350 and Speaking 360.
Test-centre rule
AHPRA accepts paper or computer OET taken at an OET test centre. The guide notes that at-home OET is not accepted by AHPRA.
Two sittings rule
AHPRA can accept a maximum of two test sittings within 12 months, with all four sub-tests taken at each sitting.
Doctors: Medical Board and AMC pathway
For IMGs with a recognised primary medical qualification listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. The main routes are Standard Pathway, Competent Authority Pathway and Specialist Pathway.

- Choosing Standard Pathway when Competent Authority Pathway could avoid AMC exams.
- Booking AMC Clinical before checking whether WBA and supervised practice are a better fit.
- Using an OET sitting around the April 2026 transition without checking the correct score table.
- Forgetting to release OET scores to AMC / Medical Board in the myOET portal.
Nurses and midwives: NMBA outcomes-based assessment
For internationally qualified nurses and midwives who want RN, EN or midwife registration. Since March 2020, NMBA has used Outcomes-Based Assessment instead of the old bridging-program model.

- Skipping Self-Check before planning OBA.
- Selecting the wrong graduation year or degree title and being misclassified.
- Booking OSCE before passing NCLEX-RN.
- Travelling for OSCE on an unsuitable visa or without checking attendance rules.
Pharmacists: Pharmacy Board and APC Knowledge Stream
For internationally qualified pharmacists outside Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA who need the APC Knowledge Stream toward provisional registration.

Physiotherapists: APEP and Physiotherapy Board route
For internationally qualified physiotherapists with an entry-level physiotherapy qualification and unrestricted right to practise who want Australian physiotherapy registration.
